On Wednesday, September 20, 2023. At 10:35 p.m., the Barrie Police Service was advised of a residential alarm at a home located east of Tollendal.

Responding officers located a broken window and determined that the person(s) responsible had left the home prior to their arrival. It was later determined that a set of keys to a car that was parked were stolen.

Early this morning, shortly after 2:30 a.m., police were notified that a vehicle parked in the driveway where the break and enter had taken place was in the process of being stolen. Police observed the stolen vehicle on a number of occasions in southeast Barrie and made attempts to stop it but were unsuccessful.

The stolen car was observed again shortly after 3:00 a.m.in southwest Barrie and again an attempt was made to safely stop it. The driver of the stolen car managed to get away and travelled through a farm field towards the southbound lanes of Highway 400. The car later became disabled, and the 16-year-old driver was taken into custody and transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued.

The youth has been charged Break & Enter, Dangerous Operation, Flight from Police (2 counts), Fail to Remain, Theft Over $5,000, Assault with a Weapon, Fail to Stop after Accident, Possession Property Obtained by Crime, Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence and is being held in custody for a bail hearing, which is scheduled to take place this afternoon, by video, with the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie.
