On Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at 7:59 p.m., Barrie Police was made aware of a robbery that had taken place at a Hewitt Place residence. Based upon information received by responding uniform officers, a perimeter was established around a home as additional police resources were requested and deployed to the scene. Police were satisfied that the incident was isolated to the involved home, that they had the scene safely contained and there was no immediate threat to public safety.
With the assistance of the Barrie Police Tactical Support Unit and primarily due to the seriousness of the complaint received, the residents were called out of the home by police and four young persons (all males) and three adults (2 males and 1 female) were taken into custody without incident. The arrested persons were all transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the ongoing investigation continued overnight by detectives from Investigative Services.
Police remained on scene at the residence until they received judicial warrants to lawfully enter the home and search for evidence related to the original call for service.
The arrested persons have all been charged with:
- Armed Robbery
- Robbery with Violence
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Assault With a Weapon
- Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
and are being held in custody for a bail hearing which is scheduled to occur later today by video, at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie.
The Barrie Police Service wish to thank the residents of Hewitt Place and anyone who may have been impacted by last night’s measured response to this incident.
