Police respond to suspicious incident

This morning at 10:31 a.m., an officer from the Barrie Police Service, who was working in the Cedar Point Drive and Dunlop Street West area was advised of a suspicious package that appeared to have been left at a business located in the Cedar Point Business Park.

Barrie Police resources immediately responded into the area and Cedar Point Road was closed from Dunlop Street to Edgehill Drive. In the interest of public safety, a number of nearby businesses were evacuated while members of the Barrie Police Explosives Disposal Unit and Tactical Support Unit arrived on scene. Additional resources from the Barrie Fire Service and County of Simcoe Paramedic Services also continued to arrive.

As the investigation continued, Barrie Police learned that the package was actually monitoring equipment that been placed at the location earlier in the morning.

The road closures were released just before noon and business owners were permitted to return.

The Barrie Police Service wish to thank the public for their patience and understanding while this incident was investigated, and the impacted area was deemed safe.
