Yesterday morning, just after 7:30 a.m., the Barrie Police Service received two calls with regards to a female acting oddly and armed with what was believed to be a screwdriver in the area of Mulcaster and McDonald Streets.

Based upon a detailed description that one of the callers provided, responding police officers located her upon their arrival in the area. The female was taken into custody without incident and transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued.

Although uncooperative at first, the now accused, a 62-year-old of no fixed address eventually provided her real name to police after which she was released from custody.

The female was charged with Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Assault with a Weapon and Obstruct Peace Officer (for initially lying about who she was) and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on April 3, 2024.

Barrie Police credit the quick-thinking members of our community who called police after encountering the accused and are thankful that neither of them were injured during what can only be described as an unexpected interaction.
