On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at 9:51 p.m., officers from the Barrie Police Service entered into a Liquor Licence Act investigation that involved the occupants of a motor vehicle that was parked in the parking lot of a hotel located on Hart Drive.
Shortly after removing the occupants from the motor vehicle, a quantity od suspected cocaine was located. The male driver and female passenger were placed under arrest for Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance (Cocaine) and once the search of the motor vehicle continued, a semi-automatic firearm and high-capacity magazine that contained .40 calibre ammunition was located.
The now accused persons were transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued.
The driver, a 30-year-old male from Scarborough and the passenger, a 20-year-old female from Toronto, were jointly charged with the cocaine related possession and also for the unauthorized possession and careless storage of an unregistered firearm with a defaced serial number.
Both individuals were remanded into custody and are scheduled to have a bail hearing at a future date.
