On Sunday, August 28, at approximately 2:00 a.m., while conducting a missing persons investigation, uniformed officers from the Barrie Police Service located a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on McKay Road, just east of County Road 27. The collision claimed the lives of two females and four males.  

An investigation was initiated by members of the Barrie Police Service Traffic Unit and Investigative Services. This complex and ongoing investigation has continued and with the assistance of the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-OFPS), the deceased victims, who range in age from 20-23, were positively identified late last week.

Barrie Police investigators have determined that the collision occurred shortly after   6:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27. It is believed the deceased persons were traveling to a nearby casino.

The Barrie Police Service is requesting that anyone who traveled along McKay Road, in the area currently under construction, between late afternoon on Friday, August 26 and 2:00 a.m.  Sunday, August 28, when the collision was located, contact investigators at 705-725-7025, extension 2162.

If investigators determine further updates are needed, the information will be released to the public at that time. We thank the community for their patience and understanding and our thoughts continue to be with families, friends, and first responders who attended the scene as they deal with this tragic loss.
