On Friday, November 24, 2023, at 4:51 p.m., officers from the Barrie Police Service responded to a report of a shooting that had taken place at the rear of 133 Dunlop St. E. in the City of Barrie.

Upon arrival at the scene, police observed that County of Simcoe Paramedics were tending to a 60-year-old female victim who had sustained a serious gunshot wound. She was transported to local hospital and later transported to a Toronto area Trauma Centre where she underwent treatment for a life-threatening injury.

Detectives from the Barrie Police Investigative Services, along with the Service’s Forensic Identification Unit, conducted a very detailed and comprehensive investigation that ultimately led to police issuing a Warrant of Arrest for a 28-year-old male from Mississauga who was wanted for the shooting.

On Monday, May 20, 2024, just before 11:00 p.m., the wanted male attended Barrie Police Headquarters where he surrendered to police. He was arrested and is charged with Attempt to Commit Murder using a Restricted Firearm or Prohibited Firearm, as well as multiple firearms and drug related offences.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and was later remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear next, by video, at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie today.
