On Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at 4:54 a.m., officers from the Barrie Police Service responded to a business located at 80 Bayfield St. after a male had thrown a rock through the front window.
Responding officers learned that the mischief occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. and that an attempt was also made to gain entry to the business by way of the glass front door as it too had sustained damage. Damage to the front window and door is estimated at $2500.
Images of the individual wanted for this incident were obtained from surveillance video and the suspect was identified early in the afternoon by members of the Barrie Police Service who had prior dealings with him.
Later in the day, at 6:48 p.m., Barrie Police responded to a report of a theft that had occurred just before 4:00 p.m. at a Bell Farm Rd. residence after an unknown male entered an apartment and had taken a number of items. The actions of the suspect again were captured by security video and his description was shared by the victim with the police. As Barrie Police officers descended into the area, they observed the suspect who was waiting for a bus at a nearby bus stop.
The accused, who is 22 years old and of no fixed address, was arrested without incident and transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued. He has been charged with Unlawfully in a Dwelling, Theft under $5000, Mischief under $5000 and was later released on an Undertaking requiring him to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on July 26, 2023, to answer to these charges.
The Barrie Police Service credit the availability of good quality video surveillance equipment and footage that assisted in the identification of the person responsible for these occurrences.
