Yesterday, after a thorough and lengthy investigation that identified the accused, a 33-year-old male Barrie resident turned himself into the Barrie Police Service in relation to an incident that initially began in the parking lot of the St. Louis Bar on Big Bay Point Road on April 12, 2022.

The incident which began as an assault quickly escalated and spilled out onto city streets when the suspect fled the scene driving in a very aggressive and dangerous manner. A responding Barrie Police officer’s vehicle was struck and a County of Simcoe Paramedic Services unit that was also responding to the call for service was sideswiped. Neither the officer nor the paramedics were injured, but their vehicles did sustain damage.

 As a result of the investigation, the male is presently facing 9 Criminal Code charges that include assault, assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, operate motor vehicle in a dangerous manner to the public, fail to remain at the scene of an accident X3, flight from peace officer and fail to comply with a release order.

 The accused has been held in custody and will appear for a bail hearing today in Barrie at the Ontario Court of Justice.
