On Monday, November 27, 2023, at 10:50 a.m., the Barrie Police Service was called for a report of an assault in progress that was occurring near Bayview Drive and Little Avenue, in the City of Barrie.
Upon arrival at the scene, police learned that the person responsible had just left the area, as a passenger, in a motor vehicle that sped off southbound on Bayview Drive at a high rate of speed. What is odd about this incident though, is that the suspect returned after the first assault a few moments later and accused the victim of stealing his phone. It was at this time that a second altercation took place with a second victim, who was also assaulted.
From the investigation that followed and from information received from a number of witnesses, police very quickly determined who was responsible for these unprovoked assaults.
Last night, shortly after 6:00 p.m., a 27-year-old Barrie resident attended Barrie Police Headquarters and turned himself in knowing that he was being sought for the previous day’s incidents.
The male has been charged with:
- Assault (3 counts)
- Assault Causing Bodily Harm
- Mischief Under $5000
- Uttering Threats.
He was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on January 17, 2024.
