On Saturday, June 17, 2023, just after 11:00 p.m., Barrie Police responded to a report of a break and enter that occurred on a boat that was docked at the City of Barrie marina , located at 55 Lakeshore Dr.
Initially, one of the suspects, a 33-year-old male of no fixed address evaded capture by jumping into the bay. He was followed closely by the other male, who is 73-years old, and he too jumped into the water, but struck his head on a rock. Eventually both men were located as they exited the water and were taken into custody.
The accused males have been charged with Break and Enter and the older of the two has also been charged with four counts of Breach of Probation. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on July 26, 2023. The other male was held for a bail hearing but was later released to the same July court date.
