Yesterday, the Barrie Police Service received information involving a theft that is believed to have taken place sometime late Monday night or early Tuesday morning.

The report indicated that an older model pickup truck, that had been parked on an Innisfil St. driveway had a tonneau cover that covered the bed and although the truck was locked, it would appear that the tailgate was not locked.

The unlocked tailgate allowed the opportunistic individual(s) the ability to access the bed of the truck where it is estimated that $1200 in battery powered tools, two rechargeable 20V Mastercraft batteries and a black and gray coloured soft shell tool bag that contained miscellaneous hand tools.

Barrie Police is reminding pickup truck owners, especially those who own older model trucks, to always make sure that tailgates are locked when you park or leave your pickup unattended. Newer model pickup trucks will automatically lock the tailgate when the cab doors are locked, but again for peace of mind, the tailgate should always be checked.
