This morning at 1:48 a.m., a Sergeant from the Barrie Police Service conducted a traffic stop involving a motor vehicle that was initially observed travelling on Anne St. and then eastbound onto Dunlop St. West.
The occupants of the motor vehicle, a 38-year-old female who was driving and the passenger, a 53-year-old male, both of no fixed address, were then investigated. The driver was found to be lying about her identity and as she was being removed and arrested for Obstruct Police, evidence related to drug use was located. Police then removed and arrested the passenger and the investigation continued.
Police located significant quantities of fentanyl, cocaine, and crystal methamphetamine that were consistent with drug trafficking along with other evidence that supported this finding. As a result, the male and female were transported to the Barrie Police Service Headquarters where additional charges were laid. Along with the drugs seized, which had an estimated street value of $40 000, police also seized a prohibited weapon.
The accused persons are jointly charged with: Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance (3 counts), Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (3 counts), Unauthorized Possession of Weapon, and Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Weapon.
The female driver is facing additional charges of Obstruct Peace Officer and Drive under Suspension.
The male is also charged with Fail to Comply with a Release Order after he was arrested and charged by officers from the Barrie Police Service Community Safety and Well Being Unit – High Harm Team last week. This Team, who were assisted by the Barrie Police Tactical Support Unit, had executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant at a Donald Street motel room on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, where again, a large amount of fentanyl, crack cocaine, heroin and weapons were seized.
Both accused’s were held for a bail hearing that just concluded and the male was remanded into custody, while the female was released with a future court date.
