(Update) – Wednesday, April 10, 2019 – The investigation into a break and enter, where the homeowner was assaulted during the early morning hours of April 3, 2019, remains ongoing and detectives from the  Barrie Police Service can now confirm that assault was sexual in nature. A dedicated tip line has been established and anyone with information is strongly encouraged to contact the Barrie Police Service at 705-725-0501.

A composite sketch of the suspect who is believed to be responsible for this incident is also now available and investigators are hopeful that the release of this sketch will assist in the identification and arrest of the person being sought by police.

The Barrie Police Service reminds the public to be aware of their personal safety at all times and where possible, to avoid dark areas unless artificial lighting is available, especially during the overnight hours.

Wednesday, April 3, 2019 – The Barrie Police Service is appealing to the public for assistance after a break and enter occurred in the City of Barrie and the homeowner was assaulted.

This morning, shortly after 9:00 a.m., Police were made aware of an occurrence that occurred overnight on Cygnus Crescent after the homeowner awoke to let a family pet out into the yard. The homeowner was confronted by an unknown male who forced his way into the residence which resulted in the homeowner being assaulted and requiring treatment at a local hospital.

The investigation is being conducted by the Barrie Police Service Crimes Against Person Unit and they are receiving assistance from the Forensic Identification Unit, Investigative Services and Uniform Patrol.

Detectives have determined that the person, who is believed to be responsible for this assault is described as:

  • Male, white, late 30’s to early 40’s, 5’8-5’10’ tall, heavy stocky build, brown eyes, dark buzz cut style hair and a scruffy dark beard.
  • Wearing blue jeans and a brown zippered hoodie.
