On Thursday, July 4, 2024, at 4:39 p.m., officers from the Barrie Police Service responded to a report of a male waving a knife in a dangerous manner in the area of Dunlop Street East, just west of Meridian Place.

Police were able to locate the suspect as a detailed description was provided by the person who called police. A 30-year-old male of no fixed address was located detained for investigative purposes, but no knife was located, there was no known complainant and as a result, he was later released.

A short time later, a witness approached police and shared a video with them that clearly showed the male suspect waving the knife dangerously at a number of people and in particular, a male who was wearing a yellow shirt.

Attempts were made to locate the suspect after the video was viewed, but he managed to elude police.

Police have issued a warrant of arrest for the male who is known to police, for Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. His details have been shared with officers who work in the Downtown area and an arrest is expected in the near future.

Although this appears to be an isolated incident, the Barrie Police Service wish to thank the person who called in and shared the initial details of this incident and to the person who shared the video to responding officers.
