On Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 2:21 a.m., officers from the Barrie Police Service responded to an alarm at a Dunlop Street West business. Upon arrival, police located the front door unlocked and later determined that a number of bottles of alcohol had been stolen.
While awaiting the owner of the Dunlop Street West business, police were approached by a female victim who had just been robbed of an undisclosed amount of money and cigarettes. She indicated that at 4:31 a.m., two unknown males approached her and asked for a cigarette. When she removed the cigarettes, some Canadian currency was accidentally displayed. A struggle ensued, the money was obtained, and the males fled on foot celebrating their criminal act.
Twelve minutes later, after a detailed description of the suspects was shared with Barrie Police officers working in the downtown area, the two suspects were located and arrested for Robbery.
As police continued the investigation at Headquarters, it was learned that the two males in custody were also responsible for the break and enter at the Dunlop Street West business.
Two youths aged 14 and 15, both from Barrie, have been charged with Break and Enter and Robbery. The younger youth was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on December 5, 2023, while the older youth was held in custody for a bail hearing.
