On Monday, January 15, 2024, at 7:04 p.m., officers from the Barrie Police Service responded to a downtown establishment located on Dunlop St. East after a male had entered the business and asked that they call the police. The male had indicated that it was an emergency but would not elaborate as to what the emergency was.

Once police arrived, they met a very intoxicated male who was very unsteady on his feet and was talking in a nonsensical manner. He was arrested under the Liquor Licence Act for Being Intoxicated in a Public Place.

The male, a 49-year-old of no fixed address, was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters and that is where matters became compounded. As the male was being booked in, he spat at one of the arresting officers and struck him on his face and vest.

This disrespectful person was further charged with Assault, Fail to Comply with a Probation Order and was held in custody pending a bail hearing that is scheduled to take place today, by video, with the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.
